Shelter Alternatives specializes in custom homes design, home additions, and home remodeling. As eco-friendly custom home builders we are well-trained in energy-efficient design, the latest technology of green building and passive solar energy design.

We create sustainable construction projects with lower energy costs, lower maintenance, and lower impact on our environment. Based in Blacksburg, Virginia since 1988, we serve clients throughout the New River Valley area.

Shelter Alternatives, Inc., is the only Five -Time recipient of the "Design Excellence Award" from the New River Valley Home Builders Association.

Energy Check

We have just launched a new affiliate program: Energy Check. The goal of Energy Check is improve the health, safety, and efficiency of new and existing homes by using the principles of building science, confirmed by diagnostic testing, to maximize comfort while minimizing our impact on the environment and operational costs.
