In the past year, I have conducted pressure testing/energy audits on three of Shelter Alternatives’ newly constructed homes in the Blacksburg area. The result of these tests clearly demonstrated the quality of these homes when measured in terms of energy efficiency. All three homes had infiltration levels significantly below the national norm. Since air infiltration typically accounts for one-third of a home’s heating and cooling bill, the owner’s of these ‘tight’ houses should realize both low utility bills and high comfort levels.
